Unlike
other tour operators that offer just one or two itineraries to
each destination year after year, we at Far Horizons are constantly
designing new routes that offer the very latest in discoveries
and research. Also, we are increasing our destinations each year,
traveling to more and more new countries and regions. In 1983
we began as an archaeological tour company specializing in the
Maya World. Today we are established on five continents, trips
throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Pacific and Africa.
Our commitment to develop new, unique, and always in-depth itineraries
has rewarded us with some of the most interesting travelers we
could hope to know. Our participants’ deep interest in the
ancient and contemporary cultures of our destinations, their enthusiasm
for learning, and their curiosity about past civilizations have
bestowed upon us immense fulfillment in our work and many new
friends.
Besides
our regularly scheduled tours, we also enjoy putting together
custom itineraries for groups. We can arrange for English-speaking
guides and drivers (or rental cars), help with yacht charters
(in Turkey), suggest local restaurants, and put together a customized
itinerary that emphasizes the particular interests of our clients.

What
makes Far Horizons different from any other tour company?
We
believe that to truly understand an area of the world, it is
important not to be just an "observer" of another
culture; we must be as much of a participant within that culture
as is possible within the confines of the trip. We must explore
how the people live today, the challenges they face, their traditions,
their goals and their political environment. Our participants
meet privately with both renowned experts working in the field,
indigenous leaders, and local inhabitants in each of our destinations.
Private dinners and parties within castles and museums
are just a few of the memories that will stay with you long
after you return home.
As
a tour company that benefits from the riches of our destinations,
we give back to the communities that support us. Our donations
to scientific projects and indigenous community programs have
opened the doors of friendship among local communities, and allow
us to offer you an experience unparalleled in the world of travel.
While
on tour we dine on the local delicacies, drink traditional beverages,
learn something of the languages, and travel to areas rarely visited
by tourists. Hotels are chosen that are frequently restored historic
buildings, and depict the charm of the country. Our lecturers,
local guides and trip escorts are picked for their expertise in
a given area and for their congeniality as traveling companions.
